Suncorp Stadium Turns 17!

On this Day 17 years ago, the first event was held at the newly re-developed Suncorp Stadium. June 1st 2003 saw the Brisbane Broncos take on the Newcastle Knights for the first match to be played on the Suncorp Stadium strip.

On that day, the Knights came away with the victory with a 32-22 win over the Broncos. The match included the likes of Darren Lockyer, Gorden Tallis, Shane Webcke, Petero Civoniceva for Brisbane while Newcastle fielded a team with Andrew Johns, Danny Buderus and Timana Tahu to name a few. Wayne Bennett and Michael Hagan coached the two teams.

A crowd of over 46,000 fans came along on the Sunday afternoon to experience the freshly redeveloped Stadium.
