Suncorp Stadium Turns Purple for International Women's Day

Tonight Suncorp Stadium will celebrate International Women's Day by turning our lights Purple.

Queensland Women’s Week 2021 takes place between 3-14 March and incorporates International Women’s Day on Monday 8 March.

This year, the theme for Queensland Women's Week 2021 is Celebrate our present. Own our future. It encourages us to reflect on the achievements of women in managing a year impacted by additional challenges and to look to a future made brighter as a result of the efforts of women in various roles.

Recognising and celebrating the contribution of women and girls enriches and strengthens our communities and creates a more equal Queensland where everyone is valued.

International Women's Day theme

Established by the United Nations (UN) in 1975, International Women's Day (IWD) is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

UN Women is the United Nations entity responsible for promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality and was established to accelerate progress to meet the needs of women and girls worldwide. Each year the UN Women National Committee Australia announces a national IWD theme.

In 2021, UN Women will mark IWD with the theme Women in Leadership: achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world. The theme celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future.
