Suncorp Supports National Amputee Awareness Week

4/10/2020

Amputee Awareness Week: 4 - 11 October 2020!

Suncorp Stadium is proud to support National Amputee Awareness by lighting the Stadium Maroon tonight!.

The Amputees & Families Support Group Qld Inc (AFSGQ) is a non-profit, self-help, community organisation dedicated to empowering amputees to move towards reaching their maximum potential by providing peer support and information throughout Queensland.

We provide services to families, children, youth and adults with a limb difference.  Upon becoming an amputee, having a child with a limb difference or when faced with the prospect of amputation, it can be very difficult and overwhelming.  This is where speaking with a Peer Support Volunteer can play an important part in your preparation, recovery and rehabilitation.  In fact speaking to someone who personally understands what it means to lose a limb or have a child with a limb difference can often be reassuring.

Amputee Awareness Week runs nationally each year from 4 to 11 October and in Queensland during this week we work towards bringing awareness to the community and demonstrate the realities of living with a limb difference or limb loss through a range of activities and awareness events.  This year will be slightly different due to COVID-19 but we are shining a light and raising awareness this Amputee Awareness Week by lighting up buildings and bridges throughout Queensland.

During Amputee Awareness Week we supply maroon ribbons to our members, individuals and organisations that would like to get involved.   Please contact Amputees & Families Support Group Qld Inc if you would like to get involved and we would love for you to wear and share your ribbon photos on social media with the hash tags #aawqld #amputeesqueensland #aaw2020 #naaw2020
