Team Turf get the WIN!

The Suncorp Stadium Grounds team took the crown as the Sports Turf Management Team of the Year at the 2024 Australian Sports Turf Managers Association (ASTMA) Awards.

The team, led by Grounds Manager Matthew Oliver and offsiders Mick Gilman and Rob Saxby, alongside the array of casuals; Manuel Halicos, Shane Biddle, Ben Engels, Tim Pfingst and Adrian Onvlee - do an excellent job with the Stadium's huge event schedule. The award recognises the team's outstanding dedication, expertise, and consistent delivery of a world-class playing surface for various sporting codes and entertainment events.

Since July 2023, the Stadium has hosted 54 events with 1 remaining before end of June 2024. These events include 8 games in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup – the most in the tournament for a venue in Australia; 21 NRL Telstra Premiership games; 2 NRL Finals games; 6 Super Rugby matches, 8 A-League matches, the 2023 Football Queensland Grand Final day and 6 concerts.

Among all the events, the team completed significant maintenance and upgrade projects, including a comprehensive irrigation system upgrade and turf renovations spanning over 12,000 square meters. These efforts were expertly managed alongside multiple concert setups and league fixtures.

Beyond their work inside the Stadium, the team does an exceptional job maintaining the expansive surrounding precinct grounds including the external plazas, concourses, and neighbouring Christ Church.

Suncorp Stadium is incredibly proud and congratulate them on receiving this extremely well-deserved recognition for their excellent commitment and tireless hard work!
