I reckon the Broncos game against the Titans at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday afternoon will be one of the most important of the year.

It might even be the most important for a lot of years. Since returning from the Covid-19 lockdown it’s fair to say the Broncos have hit a major roadblock. Four defeats on the trot, a record loss to the Roosters, a caning in the media and calls for senior players and the coach to be sacked – it doesn’t get much worse. The best that can be said is that there is only one way to go, and that’s up.

It’s a shame that the turning point has to be at the expense of a fellow Queensland side, but the injury-hit Titans offer the Broncos the perfect opportunity to get their season back on track.

There is also a very interesting sub-plot. The Titans have reportedly made very substantial offers for two of the Broncos most promising players in David Fifita and Tesi Niu. Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold sees this pair as playing a huge part in the club’s future and the last thing he wants to see is the two of them headed down the highway to the Gold Coast next season.

For Niu to experience a big win over his potential new club at Suncorp Stadium in his first run-on match, and for the injured Fifita to see the painful reality of the Big Brother versus Little Brother scenario up close, might be just what is needed to keep them both in the fold.

I reckon if that is not enough incentive for the Broncos to turn it on come 5.30pm Saturday, nothing is.

What do YOU reckon?
