Suncorp Stadium has been given the thumbs up from an independent consultant who ran thorough tests on the playing field Tuesday morning ahead of a huge weekend of 8 games across three days for NRL Magic Round.

The consultant found that all key measurements involving tension, traction, and shear strength fell within the desired ranges used to validate playability and safety of the field.

Suncorp Stadium General Manager Alan Graham said the Stadium’s primary objective was to ensure the safety and stability of the playing surface for the massive challenge that lays ahead this coming weekend.

“We’ve hosted 16 games in 8 weeks so far this season with another 8 games to come over the 3 days of Magic Round. You could not imagine a more brutal test for the playing surface.” Mr Graham said.

“The field will naturally show signs of wear and tear as we progress through the round, but it is paramount that we ensure the surface is safe for the players. “

Mr Graham paid tribute to the skill and dedication of the Stadium’s Grounds team led by Matt Oliver.

“We’ve had more games in the past 8 weeks than some stadiums have in a whole season.

“Matt and his team have worked around the clock literally to ensure the field will be right for Magic Round and the latest test results show their dedication and application has been effective.”

The NRL Magic Round kicks off this weekend on Friday night with a double header before a triple header on both Saturday and Sunday.
