Dolphins v Broncos | Saturday 8 August 2026
Suncorp Stadium is committed to being a good neighbour and continually looking for ways to improve the event-day experience for both local residents and event patrons.
As part of the ongoing review of the Stadium's Traffic Management Plan (TMP), a trial of dedicated rideshare pick-up zones will be introduced during selected major events.
The first trial will take place during the Dolphins v Broncos match on Saturday 8 August 2026.
Why is Suncorp Stadium conducting this trial?
Since redevelopment in 2003, Suncorp Stadium has operated a Traffic Management Plan designed by traffic experts in consultation with the Stadium and key stakeholders to minimise the impacts of major events on the surrounding community.
The Stadium is currently undertaking a review of the Traffic Management Plan in coordination with the Stadium's Traffic Control Group (TCG), comprising Emergency Services, Brisbane City Council and transport partners.
Feedback from residents and stakeholders has highlighted concerns about rideshare activity around the Stadium precinct during major events, particularly:
- Congestion caused by rideshare vehicles circulating or waiting in local streets
- Pedestrian safety concerns
- Traffic impacts on surrounding residential areas.
In response, the TCG has recommended trialling dedicated rideshare pick-up zones as a practical way to improve traffic management and better manage rideshare activity around the Stadium.
The trial aims to:
- Reduce unmanaged rideshare activity around the Stadium precinct
- Improve pedestrian safety and traffic operations
- Direct passengers to designated collection locations
- Test travel patterns and demand distribution before any future implementation is considered.
What is changing?
Suncorp Stadium will trial three dedicated rideshare pick-up zones during selected major events:
- Cribb Street - Between McDougall Street and Railway Terrace (west) & Between Little Cribb Street and Milton Road (east)
- Given Terrace - Between Campbell Street and Ranley Grove
- Countess Street - Near Secombe Street.
How will the rideshare trial operate?
During event egress, a temporary rideshare geofence will direct rideshare users to the three designated rideshare locations.
The geofence will be activated:
- Approximately 20 minutes before the conclusion of the event
- For approximately one hour after the event.
Using this technology, rideshare vehicles can be distributed across several locations rather than concentrating in a single area, helping to reduce congestion and vehicle dwell times around the Stadium precinct. The staging locations will be adopted for future events and will be refined based on the outcomes of the trial.
These locations have been selected based on their proximity to the Stadium and their suitability to safely and efficiently accommodate rideshare operations, however the most suitable locations for future events will be assessed and refined based on the outcomes of the trial.
How might local residents be affected?
The Stadium recognises that the trial may temporarily affect some local residents who use rideshare services during event periods.
During geofence activation periods, some residents may need to access one of the designated rideshare zones rather than being collected directly from their property.
The Stadium will be closely monitoring the trial and considering feedback as part of the evaluation process.
Importantly, this initiative is a trial.
The purpose of the trial is to test a potential solution, understand its benefits and impacts, and identify opportunities for improvement before any permanent arrangements are considered.
Want to know more?
The rideshare zones are being introduced as a trial, and community feedback will play an important role in shaping future arrangements. Read our FAQs below to learn more about why the trial is being conducted, how it will operate and how you can have your say.
Have your say
Community feedback will play an important role in evaluating the rideshare trial and informing the final Traffic Management Plan.
We encourage residents, businesses and other stakeholders to provide feedback by 12 August 2026.
Following the trial, feedback from residents, businesses, event patrons, rideshare providers and transport stakeholders will be reviewed and considered as part of the broader TMP assessment process. A final Traffic Management Plan will then be submitted to Brisbane City Council for approval.
Make sure you stay up to date with the trial and receive future updates and communication by subscribing to our Suncorp Stadium Locals mailing list. Sign up below.
Thank you for your continued support of Suncorp Stadium and the events it hosts.
Proposed Traffic Management Plan adjustments
The rideshare trial forms part of a broader review of the Stadium's Traffic Management Plan.
Several additional changes are currently being considered. These proposals are separate from the rideshare trial and have not yet been finalised.
Proposed amendments under consideration include:
- Relocation of shuttle bus staging from Haig Road to Finchley Street
- Extension of coach overflow parking into Manning Street and Petrie Terrace when required
- Closure of Hall Street during ingress and egress periods to reduce rat-running
- Extension of inbound Milton Road closures between Torwood Street and Baroona Road during major event egress periods
- Turn restrictions at the Heussler Terrace/Caxton Street roundabout and the Caxton Street/Castlemaine Street intersection during event egress
- Consideration of future Roma Street precinct development and associated pedestrian movement impacts.
FAQs
Rideshare Trial
The trial is a direct response to feedback from local residents and stakeholders about rideshare activity around the Stadium precinct during major events.
Dedicated rideshare zones are being tested as a practical way to improve traffic management, reduce congestion, enhance pedestrian safety and create a more organised event-day experience.
The first trial will occur during the Dolphins v Brisbane Broncos match on Saturday 8 August 2026.
A geofence is a virtual boundary drawn around a real-world geographic area using GPS, Wi-Fi, or cellular data.
In this instance it lets rideshare platforms know what areas should be including in the practical use of the rideshare zones.
During the trial period, rideshare users within the designated geofenced area will be directed by their rideshare app to one of the approved rideshare pick-up locations. The geofence will operate from approximately 20 minutes before the conclusion of the event until approximately one hour after the event.
The staging locations will be adopted for future events and will be refined based on the outcomes of the trial.
From approximately 20 minutes before the conclusion of the event until approximately one hour after the event.
For the Dolphins v Broncos game this will be from:
- 6.55pm until 8.25pm Saturday 8 August 2026
The trial locations at Cribb Street, Given Terrace and Countess Street were selected based on their proximity to the Stadium and their suitability to safely and efficiently accommodate rideshare operations.
The locations will be reviewed as part of the trial evaluation.
During major events, rideshare vehicles often circulate through surrounding streets or wait for passengers close to the venue. This can contribute to congestion, pedestrian safety risks and impacts on local residential streets.
Dedicated rideshare zones are intended to provide more organised and predictable pick-up arrangements.
Residents will continue to be able to access rideshare services. However, during the geofence activation period, some residents may need to travel to a designated rideshare zone rather than being collected directly from their property.
The Stadium understands this may be inconvenient for some residents and will take this feedback into consideration when evaluating the trial.
The Stadium recognises that different community members may experience the trial differently. Residents with accessibility concerns are encouraged to provide feedback as part of the trial evaluation process so that these considerations can be assessed when reviewing future arrangements.
For patrons, a dedicated accessibility pickup point will be located on the Stadium's Northern plaza during the time the geofence is in place.
