Suncorp Stadium has been shortlisted for the Venue of the Year Award in the internationally recognized TheStadiumBusiness Awards 2024.
The Stadium had its largest year on record in 2023 with almost 1.7 million patrons visiting 49 events including 8 concerts and 8 FIFA Women’s World Cup matches.
A mix of local and international sports as well as the world’s biggest music stars like Ed Sheeran, Sir Paul McCartney and the Foo Fighters graced the venue highlighting the multi-use nature of the Stadium.
General Manager Alan Graham said the nomination highlighted the world-class nature of the Queensland icon.
“Suncorp Stadium has always held a special place in Queenslander’s hearts and it’s great to see it being recognised on the world stage.
“We have an incredible team that delivers world-class events time after time,” he said.
“While we may not be as new as some other venues around the world, under ASM Global Management, Suncorp Stadium has continued to hold its place as one of the world’s leading Stadiums through a visionary strategy of ongoing enhancements and upgrades over the past 20 years with the support of the building owner Stadiums Queensland.”
Launched in 2010, TheStadiumBusiness Awards were the first industry awards for the stadium sector, by the stadium sector.
TheStadiumBusiness Founder Ian Nuttall said that the awards continue to recognise leadership, innovation and achievement in the design, delivery and operation of sports and entertainment facilities globally.
"The world's venues are the ‘memory factories’ of humanity and it is wonderful to see across all the finalists that our industry is alive with new ideas and new approaches,” he said.
“We are seeing the industry’s best facilities continue to re-invent their offer and enhance the fan experience, connect more deeply with their communities and tackle their sustainability obligations.”
Suncorp Stadium has been managed by ASM Global on behalf of Stadiums Queensland since it was redeveloped in 2003.
The Stadium joins other ASM Global managed venue AO Arena, Manchester in the pool of finalists which also include Eden Park in New Zealand and Wembley Stadium in the UK.
The Winners of the awards will be announced during TheStadiumBusiness Awards Party on 18th June 2024 at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester as a highlight of the 15th annual TheStadiumBusiness Summit.
