Checking in with the Grounds Team

In just 7 days, our Grounds team have milled out and replaced over 2500m2 of turf, stitched 1600m2 of replaced turf with hybrid SISGrass fibres and began the field’s transition to a cool-season grass.

Following the third and final Pink Summer Carnival Tour show at Suncorp Stadium last Tuesday, the team worked alongside the bump out to prep the field for the footy.

Once the stage was removed, the northern end turf was replaced and as the turf was laid, a small stitching machine followed along running 24 hours a day.

This stitching machine – as the name suggests – uses a hybrid SISGrass fibre to stitch into the field to ensure optimum stability for the playing surface.

Suncorp Stadium is currently the only NRL or Super Rugby venue to have the SISGrass stitching for the season with 7140m2 coverage across the entire field.

In addition to this, the Grow Lamps have been rolled out earlier than usual to combat some of the recent heavy rainfall and persistent overcast weather including over 140mm in the last 2 weeks.

If this wasn’t enough, the team began the annual Ryegrass over-seeding bringing through the cool-climate variety to handle a busy winter season ahead with more seeding to taking place in the coming months.

Congratulations to the team on continuing to produce a world-class playing surface!
