The Suncorp Stadium Grow Lights are turned off for another year.
During winter, when the lower position of the sun and shading from the stadium roof significantly reduce the amount of natural sunlight reaching the playing surface, Suncorp Stadium turf receives a serious boost of light thanks to innovative technology: our grow lights!
The lights are used for 24hrs a day on each non match day between the start of April and early September.
Each has a lighting footprint of 360m², giving us more than 2,100m² of supplementary lighting coverage across the six rigs at any one time. The rigs provide the turf with the light energy required for photosynthesis, helping maintain growth, density, colour and recovery through the cooler, lower-light months.
There are multiple fans on the North-End of the field to also help increase air movement across the turf canopy, helping manage excess moisture and humidity, improve evaporation and transpiration, and reduce conditions favourable to turf disease. Working alongside our supplementary lighting program, they help us manage the unique microclimate within the stadium and maintain a healthy, high-performing playing surface throughout winter and our busiest periods of the event calendar.
