November was another fantastic month at Suncorp Stadium! We saw the return of the Roar and the Matildas, completed our new turf upgrades, and added even more exciting events to our 2025 schedule.
The Roar's Homecoming
The Brisbane Roar returned to Suncorp Stadium to kick off their first home game of the 2024-25 Isuzu Ute A-League season against arch-rivals Sydney FC on Friday, 1st November. Roar fans were out in full force, marching down Caxton Street and filling The Den with their passionate support. Despite a narrow 2-3 loss, the vibrant energy in the Stadium set the tone for an exciting season ahead.
Followed by the Tillies Return!
The CommBank Matildas made their long-awaited return since the unforgettable FIFA Women's World Cup 2023, taking on Brazil in front of a full house on Thursday 28th November. The green and gold fans created an incredible atmosphere, celebrating a fiercely competitive match against the Olympic silver medalists. The game also marked a special moment in Australian football history, as fans paid tribute to legendary defender Clare Polkinghorne in her farewell match for the Matildas. Although the team fell 3-1 to Brazil, the night was a celebration of the Tillies’ impact on and off the field.
Another successful 42-Hour Challenge
Suncorp Stadium hosted 42 for 42 for their 9th Annual 42-Hour Challenge from Thursday 21st until Saturday 23rd of November, raising money for Afghanistan veterans and their families. Dedicated walkers and teams walked laps of the Stadium concourse with the weight in their packs, in memory of the fallen from Afghanistan, with every hour dedicated to their sacrifice. It was another incredible effort by all those that participated this year, congratulations to all!
Cutting-edge Turf Transformation
We’re excited to announce the completion of our recent field upgrade, featuring 10,125m² of HG Hero Hybrid turf with Wintergreen Couchgrass! Designed with advanced technology, this turf offers exceptional drainage and durability. With just 5% artificial grass, our hybrid turf system keeps a natural feel and triples our playing capacity - setting us up for an action-packed summer season and ensuring a world-class playing surface for our massive 2025 event schedule!
Kudos to our Grounds Manager Matthew Oliver, the entire Suncorp Stadium Grounds team, HG Turf Group, our Operations and Venue Presentation teams, and everyone involved in the huge transformation. The team worked through rain and tight time frames between events to deliver this incredible result.
Phase 1 | 3,300m² turf replaced post-Travis Scott to prepare for Brisbane Roar v Sydney FC. |
