"Great integrity, a great journalist and a true gentleman"

Sports Journalist - Rugby Union

Jim Tucker

Jim Tucker is one of Australia's finest sports journalists, who has been proudly Queensland-based since 1982. Over that time he became one of the most respected members of the Suncorp Stadium press box. Many of the more than 500 Queensland Rugby games and Test matches he has covered has been from that perch including the Reds' victory in the 2011 Super Rugby Final. It's in the blood because father Dick covered rugby and cricket as a newspaperman with the same hairstyle. Jim immersed himself in Queensland's unique sporting landscape, first, at the Daily Sun and for 21 years at The Courier Mail. The Wallabies' triumphs at the 1991 and 1999 Rugby World Cups and the glory moments of three Olympic Games were covered with a flair and news sense which was all his own. All the while, he has mentored young journalists he hopes will relish the same path.
