"The Voice of Rugby League"

Broadcaster and Commentator - Rugby League and Major Sporting Events

Ray Warren

In a career that spanned over 50 years in television and radio, Ray Warren began with 2LF in 1966 before moving to Sydney to gain experience in 1971 with 2GB. Ray's connection with Suncorp Stadium began when he called his first games at the old Lang Park for the 0-10 Network from the mid-1970s. Throughout his illustrious career, he would go on to call over 40 State of Origin games for Channel Nine at the venue from 1989 through to 2021, as well as countless premiership games involving the Broncos after they entered the league in 1988. Across all venues, Ray would call almost 100 games of State of Origin in total. Warren was a stickler for identifying players correctly and for the accurate pronunciation of names and would regularly attend training sessions before games he was due to call to discover player idiosyncrasies. Friend and colleague Phil Gould said of Warren, “Ray makes the game better. He brings it to life in lounge rooms all over the country. Ray Warren is the voice of Rugby League.” In addition to his work with Rugby League, Warren also called Swimming at World Championships, Commonwealth and Olympic Games as well as calling Racing across all levels including three Melbourne Cups.
