Ross Lawson

Ross Lawson was best known for his Rugby League commentary during the 1960s and 70s when Brisbane club matches drew tens of thousands of fans. Balancing a career as a publican, a cricketer and Rugby League player, Ross gained his commentary start calling trial matches at Davies Park, West End before becoming Queensland’s top football caller for 4BH and 4IP. For more than a decade Ross would call club games on weekends as well as Kangaroos tours, grand finals and interstate matches. Ross would also become the voice of the venue providing ground announcements and on-field entertainment between games. A passion for racing led Ross to own a number of thoroughbreds as well as racing greyhounds throughout the years. A true lover of the game, Ross was also involved as a player, coach and administrator throughout his career leaving a lasting legacy wherever he went.
